Las Americas runway rebuilt at a cost of US$19M

Santo Domingo.- President Leonel Fernandez yesterday headed the inaugural of the construction of the runway at the Las Americas International Airport (AILA), at a cost of US$19 million, reportedly the most modern in the entire Caribbean.

Fernandez arrived in the terminal at 12:10 p.m. to inaugurate runway 17-35, which is 3,345 meters long and 75 meters wide, and paved shoulders of 15 meters.

The airports management company Aerodom said the new runway is thick enough to handle any aircraft, including the heaviest, an Airbus 380.
