SANTO DOMINGO.- Housing Builders and Promoters Association (ACOPROVI) president Jaime González said the cost of construction materials has jumped around 25 percent in the last 30 days; housing sales fell 50 percent in March and April and the price of residences rose around 15 percent last month. He blamed the fall in sales and rising costs on expectations from the elections. “The costs have skyrocketed and we fear there’s no one to buy the units from us.” González said the industry is greatly concerned with what’s going to happen with construction when elections conclude and that there’s fear costs would skyrocket again. “The price of construction materials shouldn’t have to rise, more increases make no sense any longer.”
